CLA College Day Lecture: Speech Perception and Brain Plasticity

These two sample lectures for CLA Open House Day (March 26, 2011; September 2, 2010) feature new findings on speech and language research.
I will discuss three interconnected topics:
(a) how infants crack the speech code,
(b) what limits second language acquisition in adulthood, and
(c) what training methods can promote brain plasticity in for speech and language.

The two lecture sessions include extra time answering questions, offering specific information on the SLHS major, and sharing experiences working with undergraduates.
